The progression of skills in reading and writing overlap greatly. There is a breadth of knowledge involved in becoming a confident reader and writer and for some children balancing all of them, often without a clear ‘right or wrong’ can be challenging. This where avoidance can become a problem too. 

As with all areas, my aim is to hook your child into wanting to read and write, to identify the gaps in their knowledge and plug them, build their confidence and accelerate their progress. 

Assessment 

Reading: For the majority children, the most helpful tool is the correct level of reading text. I offer an accurate assessment over a video call to advise their book band, alongside the next strategies that your child needs to learn to enable them to become a competent reader.

Writing: Additionally, I will ask you to share photos of two or three pieces of recent independent writing. This will enable me to advise you on the next learning that your child needs in their writing development.

The outcomes of these activities are fed back to parents in a written summary (or by phone or video call appointment if preferred). I offer this stand alone as it may be that you then wish to use this information to support your child without any additional tutoring. 

£30. 

1:1 Tutoring Sessions 

This involves a weekly 30 minute video call with your child, the content of which will be tailored to them, using their assessment as a starting point. I will then provide follow up tasks in a shared folder. The amount of work involved in these tasks will be planned around how much time you would like your child to spend on this each week. You will be able to share pictures of their work in the folder and I will provide feedback and plan the following session, responding to your individual child's learning requirements.  

£180 for a block of six weeks.
