Phonics Assessment & Tutoring

Children generally learn all of the sounds and their alternative spellings by the time they are seven. This core bank of knowledge is needed to become a confident reader and writer. For some children the challenge is how to use these in their reading and writing. 

I have established a simple assessment that can be done over video call, to allow me to find any gaps in their phonic knowledge. I can also offer 1:1 tuition: I directly teach the sounds to your child, ensuring they know how they are used in reading and spelling. I can then provide your child with some simple follow up activities that allow them to practice and apply their learning. 

Assessment 

The assessment is carried out over video call and findings fed back to parents in a written summary (or by phone or video call appointment if preferred). The assessment will take approximately 30 minutes. I offer this as a stand alone session as it may be that you then wish to use this information to support your child without any additional tutoring. I am happy to give you some pointers on this.

1:1 Tutoring Sessions 

A weekly 30 minute video call tutoring session with your child, introducing new sounds, reading and spelling skills at a pace appropriate to your child. Follow up activities for each of the sounds are then set in a shared folder- your child will be able to tackle these with some independence. There is the opportunity for you to share their work in the folder and I will provide feedback and plan the following session, responding to your individual child's needs and progress.  

£180 for a block of six weeks.
